Difference Between Vinyl Labels and Stickers

Vinyl Labels

When you say that you are thinking of ordering vinyl labels for your brand as opposed to ordering stickers for your brand, you are generally saying that you are getting labels that have no background on them. Vinyl labels are better known by their other name which is decals. These two, stickers and vinyl labels, are attached to products and other surfaces with the use of an adhesive but that is where their similarities end.

What exactly is the difference between these two popular labeling products and which one is best for your business and labeling needs? For starters, stickers can be made using a variety of materials, but the most popular is often paper. You can have these stickers made using thick or thin paper, depending on where these are to be used. You can also have these made with a glossy finish or you can choose to have a matte finish, if you do not want any light reflecting from it.

Vinyl decals, on the other hand, are made using vinyl, as the name implies. These cannot be made using paper nor can these be made using cardboard or any other material for that matter. If it is made using materials other than vinyl, it can no longer be called a vinyl label or vinyl decal.

Also worth noting is the durability of these two different branding products. Stickers, which are usually made out of paper, deteriorate faster than vinyl labels. This is because paper, even when these have a glossy and protective overlaminate, is porous, which means it can absorb moisture and fall apart because of this. Vinyl is a kind of plastic, so this material does not deteriorate with moisture and is therefore more durable.

Another difference these two have is resistance to tearing. Paper, even with a protective laminate, can tear rather easily. Vinyl however is not that easy to tear. This makes them easy to reapply if a mistake is made in sticking these to the surface these are supposed to go on, as opposed to paper stickers that may need a new sticker if mistakes are made in the sticking of these tags.

One of the most noticeable differences between these two is the fact that vinyl labels or decals do not have a background while paper stickers do. This makes a vinyl decal a great choice for when you want your logo or brand to stand out without a background distracting you from it. This also makes it a great label or tag to use on items such as clear glass jars and the like.
